The employees of Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnecha Mujib Medical University of Sylhet have started a protest wearing kafan clothes to demand their outstanding salary. They blocked the Chauhatta-Amberkhana road in front of the university on Tuesday (March 5). Later, the protestors lifted the blockade with the assurance of the administration.

Meanwhile, due to the blockade, there was a long traffic jam on the Chauhatta-Amberkhana road in the city. People traveling on this road suffered due to this. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and discussed with the protestors and the university administration. Later, the protestors lifted the blockade with the assurance of the university administration.

The agitating employees said that their salaries have been stopped for 15 months. They are living an inhumane life with their families in such conditions. Months of fasting ahead. If this continues, there will be no other option but suicide. They sought the intervention of the Prime Minister to solve the problem.

In this regard, Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Medical University Staff Council Member Secretary Nadeem Shimant said that the salaries of the officers and employees have been stopped for 15 months. Many people do not even know who has a job and who does not. A handful of people are getting paid properly. And we are starving to death.

He said that numerous meetings have been held with the university administration to demand permanent employment, payment of arrears and ensuring a healthy working environment at the workplace. But there was no solution. If these problems are not resolved, the employees will go on a hard strike.
