The news that Kylian Mbappe is leaving Paris Saint-Germain is quite old. But so far they have been informal or rumours. Now the news of his departure from Paris has become official. In a video message, the French World Cup-winning forward confirmed his farewell to PSG for the first time. Now it’s time to step into a new club in a new country. Is Mbappe going to Real Madrid?
Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco in 2018. He contributed 255 goals and 108 assists in these six years. He won six league titles in a PSG jersey, as well as three French Cups, two League Cups and four French Super Cup trophies.
The 25-year-old striker said, ‘I’ve always said I’ll talk to you when the time comes. This is my last year at PSG. I am not renewing the contract. This campaign is going to end in a few weeks.’
PSG will face Tulo at the Parc des Princes next Sunday. It will be Mbappe’s last game in front of home crowd in the Paris club jersey. And his last match for PSG will be against Lyon in the French Cup final on May 15.
MbappĂ© also said in an emotional voice, ‘It is a matter of many emotions. It was a great honor to be a member of the biggest and one of the best clubs in the world where I had the opportunity to play for so many years. This is where I first experienced a lot of pressure, where I developed as a player, played alongside some of the best and champions in history. I have met many people, I have also grown as a person. To have been a part of the glory and to have made a mistake is also a great honour.’
Mbappe thanked the coaches Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Gaultier and Luis Enrique and the club’s sporting directors at PSG.
He added, ‘Despite the off-field incidents, the occasional uproar surrounding the club, there are some true fans who have protected this club and taken it to the top. It’s great. I know as long as these fans stay, the club will be safe.’
Mbappe also expressed his feelings about announcing his departure from PSG, saying, ‘It’s difficult. I never thought it would be so difficult to announce, leaving my country France, the Ligue One Championship, which I know so well. But I think after seven years this, this new challenge is what I need.’
