‘Mazza to Standard: transfer hijacked at the last minute’

Standard will resume their season next weekend with a visit to the red lantern KV Kortrijk. The possibility that new coach Ivan Leko can count on further reinforcements is extremely slim. In the end, the arrival of left-back Jaouen Hadjam also failed.

Leko was appointed as Carl Hoefkens’ successor at Standard soon after the turn of the year and will have the difficult task of ensuring a turnaround after weak results in the first half of the season. To achieve this objective, the Croatian would like some targeted reinforcements.

There is a left-back on the wish list. This would give Leko the opportunity to play Moussa Djenepo in a more senior role. He would also give him the opportunity to use more diverse tactical variations.

Medical exams passed

To fill this vacancy, the Standard had its eyes on Jaouen Hadjam. An agreement with the Algerian from FC Nantes seemed to be finalized, even if Olympique Marseille was still trying to make the transfer. Hadjam was even expected in Liège on Monday.

And second The last hour the player also passed medical and physical tests. They were far from exceptional, but still sufficient to complete the rental agreement (with option to purchase). However, the transfer still failed.

The young boys light up the dwarves

During the day Hadjam and his intermediaries were contacted by Young Boys Bern, who also showed concrete interest. The Algerian then started to have doubts and ultimately decided to choose the Swiss club. Standard is therefore left empty-handed. The Rouches will have to focus on other paths, for example Frans Krätzig (Bayern Munich) is mentioned again.
