Maynez proposes gradual reforms for the development of Mexico

Jorge Álvarez Maynez, candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for the Citizen Movement party, presented proposals to promote the development of the country during his participation in the Banking Convention. In his initial speech, he highlighted the importance of the participation of new generations in his campaign, stating: “Let’s stop discussing which of Mexico’s past was less worse. Let’s focus our efforts on building a new Mexico with three fundamental pillars: a Mexico with justice , a Mexico with prosperity and a Mexico with equality”.

The presidential candidate said that we must believe in young people, embrace them and give them an opportunity, while not underestimating them, due to the perception that they have no interest in participating in public life and in the country.

Maynez criticized the security strategy carried out in Mexico in the last three six-year terms, questioning the approach based on prohibitionism, punitivism and militarization. He proposed betting on new technologies, granting investigative powers to the police and encouraging reporting through applications.

Regarding the country’s prosperity, he pointed out the need to transform the energy generation model, betting on clean energy and criticizing the dependence on fossil fuels. He proposed anational infrastructure program that includes investments in water and sanitation structures.

In one of his proposals, he announced a national infrastructure program that will gradually grow by focusing resources on water structures and Conagua’s budget for treatment plants, sanitation, dams and drinking water systems.

He insisted on the lack of security, but added that the insufficiency in energy and water supply impedes the country’s prosperity.

He stated that Mexico needs a national social housing program, with public and private financing, that can solve the problem.

Regarding the violence in the country, he stated: “You cannot have indolence with the relationship of dependency, complicity, and subordination that exists between the political class and organized crime.”

The criticism

He spoke about reducing spending on culture and criticized spending on President López Obrador’s works. He criticized that public universities are without budget, suffocated, and without educational autonomy, which at the same time, as a contradiction, have cut resources to stimulate research.

Maynez criticized government management in Mexico, calling practices that, according to him, do not respect the rule of law and reduce the country’s competitiveness as “the old policy.” On the issue of pensions, he was against lowering the retirement age and advocated separating the health system from the pension system.
