ASSUMPTION. Commissioner Mario Lesme, head of the Sports Events and Shows Security Department, stated that the decision to hold the meeting between Nacional and Sportivo Luqueño behind closed doors was not that of the National Police. He explained that the measure was arranged jointly between the host club and the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) due to the proximity to the stage where the Colombian singer Karol G will perform tonight.
Lesme highlighted that his department only made a non-binding suggestion for the match to be played without an audience, considering the well-attended musical concert scheduled for the same day at La Nueva Olla, a stadium near the venue of the match. Additionally, it was recommended to move the match to the Defensores del Chaco stadium, but due to weather conditions and the proximity of another event, this option was not available.
“It is being misunderstood that I, as a police officer, suggested that it be played behind closed doors. It was not so. We proposed a change of scenario,” emphasized Lesme, in an interview with Radio 1000.
