Marrakech hosts short film festival

The fourth session of the Marrakech Short Film Festival will be held between September 27 and October 2. It is a cinematic event that brings together Moroccan and foreign pioneers of the seventh art.

According to the organizers, this cinematic event, which is held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, and hosts Qatar as a guest of honor, is distinguished by two exceptional partnerships, namely the inclusion of the festival in the program of the cultural event “Marrakech, Capital of Islamic Culture 2024”, and the distinguished participation in the program of the cultural year “Qatar-Morocco 2024”.

This edition, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, ISESCO, the Marrakech Community, the Doha Film Institute and Qatar Museums, will highlight the rich cultural and cinematic diversity of the State of Qatar. The same source indicated that the festival is hosting for the first time the Doha Film Institute, the first international organization in Qatar specialized in film financing, production, education and film festivals, adding that this cooperation will contribute to enriching the international cinematic panorama that will be presented during this edition.

The 2024 edition will host a prestigious jury headed by prominent actress and producer Maysa Maghribi, who is known for her distinctive roles in the series “Hawaymer Al Sahraa” and “Lel Hob Gonoun 2”.

She is accompanied by award-winning director Sofia Alaoui, known for her short film “Qu’importe si les bêtes meurent”, which won the César Award for Best Short Narrative Film in 2021, and her feature film “Animalia”, which received a special jury award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Also participating in the jury of this session is the talented actress Nadia Kunda, who was chosen by “Vogue Arabia” magazine as one of the most prominent actresses in Arab cinema for the year 2020, as she will contribute her international experience in the field of film studies in Montreal.

The Marrakech Short Film Festival 2024 presents an impressive selection of national and international short films, highlighting emerging and distinguished talents from Morocco and other countries.

The national selection includes 9 films, while the international selection will screen 15 films from different countries such as France, Lebanon, Brazil, Canada, Poland, Senegal, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Norway.

According to the organizers, this edition promises a week of inspiring cinematic discoveries, stimulating encounters and a celebration of cultural diversity through the art of short films.
