Maria Corina Machado reappears in mass protest against election results

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who has gone into hiding for fear of her safety, joins a demonstration in Caracas to protest against the re-election of President Nicolas Maduro.

Call for peaceful protest

This Saturday, María Corina Machado reappeared in her campaign truck, being cheered by thousands of demonstrators who responded to her call to continue peaceful protests. She was accompanied by other opponents such as Delsa Solórzano, Biagio Pilieri and César Pérez Vivas.

Machado was escorted by a caravan of motorcyclists, similar to what happened during the electoral campaign and in her two public appearances after the elections. The protests arose in response to the CNE’s failure to publish the official minutes.

Fraud complaints

The anti-Chavez movement claims to have compiled “83.5% of the votes” that, according to them, give Edmundo González Urrutia victory over Nicolás Maduro. This thesis has the support of various countries and national and international organizations. It also includes the panel of electoral experts of the UN and the Carter Center.

National and international protests

Protests on Saturday were replicated in Venezuela’s main cities. Thousands of people, carrying flags and copies of the electoral records published by the opposition, demanded “the truth” about the presidential results.

In addition, in more than 300 localities in various countries, thousands of Venezuelans joined the call of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) to demand transparency in the election results.
