Heavy rain during the National Day holiday on September 2nd caused many roads in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong to be deeply flooded, many vehicles stalled, and traffic jams.
At around 4:30 p.m. on September 1, heavy rain poured down across districts, towns, and cities in Ho Chi Minh City. After only 30 minutes, many roads were flooded.
Specifically, in Go Vap district, roads such as Pham Van Chieu, Le Van Tho, Nguyen Van Khoi, Phan Huy Ich… were deeply flooded. Many people riding motorbikes through these roads had their vehicles stall.

Flooding also occurred on Linh Trung, La Xuan Oai, Le Van Viet, Do Xuan Hop, Dang Thi Ranh streets… in Thu Duc City. Authorities were present on these streets to assist people whose vehicles had stalled and to regulate traffic.
In particular, on Highway 1K, bordering Binh Duong and Thu Duc City, the water was more than half a meter deep, stretching over 200 meters. Many drivers stopped their cars on the road, not allowing their vehicles to pass through the area, to prevent the engine from stalling.
“The water was above the motorbike’s wheels, so I parked my car close to the roadside and waited for the water to recede before crossing because I was afraid the engine would break down,” driver Phan Cuong (43 years old, from Dong Nai) shared.
At 5:30 p.m., it was still raining heavily, and the water on Highway 1K had not receded, causing traffic congestion in both directions.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, many areas in Ho Chi Minh City have thunderstorms developing, causing showers and spreading throughout the city. Rainfall is generally 20-50mm, with some places over 80mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind of about level 5-7.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms also spread across the Southeast and Western provinces, causing heavy rain. Rainfall in most provinces and cities was 20-50mm, with some places receiving over 100mm.
