Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho Surrenders to Lionel Messi in Training
Many consider Manchester United’s winger, Alejandro Garnacho, to be one of the most exciting young players in the game today. And Garnacho himself recently opened up about what it was like to train with Leo Messi for the Argentine National Team, saying he felt overwhelmed by the experience.
The childhood idol of Garnacho was Cristiano Ronaldo. Garnacho used to imitate his celebrations and even took photos with him as a ball boy. But later on, he named Messi as “the best of all time” in a post on Instagram. Sergio “Kun” Omen quickly commented on it, saying, “Because you still haven’t played with the best pa, Leo Messi.”
Although Garnacho has not yet played for the Argentine National Team, he has been an important piece for Manchester United and was even called up to the national team. During training with Messi for the national team, Garnacho felt overwhelmed and claimed it was an unbelievable experience.
“The colleagues quite well with me, very involved in supporting me. I didn’t talk much with Messi. I went from seeing it on TV all my life and now having it here. It’s unbelievable, it’s not real.”

Garnacho’s Argentine Identity
Garnacho’s mother’s family is from Argentina, while his father’s family is from Spain. Due to life circumstances, Garnacho’s mother’s family moved to Spain where they met his father, and he was born there. As a result, Garnacho grew up fascinated with the Argentine National Team. He even has pictures as a child wearing light blue and white shirts. And despite being called up to the Argentine National Team, Garnacho has yet to make his debut.
“I did not doubt anything because I feel Argentine, I am Argentine. They bet on me and I was clear about it. It is a very big team, a very good opportunity and all my family is very happy and supported me from minute one. I do not need to play three games. I’m here, I’m not making my debut on this tour and it doesn’t matter, I already know that I want to be with Argentina and it will happen.”
