The management of the English Manchester United Football Club decided to retain Erik Ten Hag as the team’s technical director, according to what was reported by the British news agency (PA Media) on Wednesday.
Despite Manchester United’s lackluster season, it concluded it in the best possible way, by winning the FA Cup title following a 2-1 victory over Manchester City, in the final match of the prestigious competition.
United officials have spent the past two weeks fully reviewing the first team’s performance during the 2023-2024 season, sparking speculation over Ten Hag’s future.
PA Media reported that United’s management decided to keep the 54-year-old Dutch coach in his position after considering all possibilities.
It has been reported that club officials have begun negotiations with Ten Hag to extend the contract, as his current contract with the club is scheduled to expire next summer.
News reports said that Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, held talks with Thomas Tuchel, the former coach of Bayern Munich and Chelsea, in France last week, as uncertainty increased over Ten Hag’s fate.
The former Dutch coach of Ajax Amsterdam was subjected to increasing pressure, especially in light of the decline in United’s performance, which suffered 14 losses in the English Premier League during the past season, with its poor local performance being reflected in the Champions League, where it exited the continental competition early, falling to the bottom of the standings in the group stage.
