Man shot dead his wife, his 6-year-old son and his in-laws

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — A California man has been arrested in the shooting deaths of his wife, their 6-year-old son and the wife’s parents, police said Thursday.

Another infant son, a 1-year-old, was also shot and is in the hospital in critical condition, Alameda Police Department Chief Nishant Joshi said at a news conference Thursday.

Officers arrived at the home on Kitty Hawk Road in Alameda around 9 p.m. Wednesday after a neighbor called 911. The suspect’s father-in-law, who had been shot, had gone to the neighbor asking for help, Joshi said.

The victim gave statements to police before she died, Joshi said.

The other relatives were found inside the home, which is where police say the shooting occurred.

Shane Killian was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, said Sarah Henry, a spokeswoman for the police department. She added that Killian did not resist arrest.

Police did not release a possible motive. They said they recovered several firearms from the home.

There is no indication that there is any continuing threat to the public, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

It is at least the 21st mass shooting in the United States this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University.
