Israeli man Shalom Avitan has been charged with firearms offenses by a Malaysian court. On Friday (April 12), the authorities announced the charges against him. Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this news.
A court in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, said Shalom Avitan was charged with smuggling six handguns and four boxes of ammunition without a license. But Shalom says, he is not guilty.
Abhitan was arrested at a hotel on March 27, two weeks after entering Malaysia on a French passport.
Police said it appears he may have links with the Mossad. Therefore, security has been strengthened around Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the King.
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that Avitan is a member of an organized crime group. The rival gang was planning to attack the leader.
A Malaysian couple was accused of selling weapons to Avitan. They have also been charged. Two Turkish nationals involved in the investigation have been arrested.
Malaysia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. Therefore, this country clearly criticizes the Gaza war.
