Mahitsy: Two thieves of human bones shot dead

Last Tuesday, around midnight, a shocking incident took place in Ambohidranomanga, Antanetibe Mahazaza commune, Ambohidratrimo district. Four individuals were spotted by gendarmerie forces on patrol, arousing suspicion.

Two of them were carrying bags, while the other two were armed. As Emmo/Reg’s car approached, the two bag carriers fled, abandoning their loot. Despite warnings from the gendarmerie, one of the fugitives opened fire, prompting a response from the police. Two criminals were shot and died from their injuries, while the accomplices managed to escape with the firearm.

To the surprise of the authorities, the abandoned bags contained human bones. These macabre relics were handed over to the commune for a decent burial, while the corpses of the criminals were deposited in the morgue of Mahitsy hospital.

The desecration of graves and the theft of human bones is on the rise in Madagascar, leaving the final destination of these relics stolen from graves on the Big Island remaining a mystery.

According to the gendarmerie, these acts are linked to a scam system. Investors, attracted by the prospect of easy profits, are duped by scammers. Buying human bones from these criminals, investors hope to resell them at a high price to foreign buyers. However, no buyers actually exist, leaving investors with unsellable bones, while the scammers disappear with the money.
