A team made up of ten experts in epidemiological surveillance and avian biosafety from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) He was deployed in the department of Suchitepéquez. This measure was taken in response to the appearance of cases of acute neurological disease, suspected of Guillain Barré, in the region.
The main objective of this brigade is to intensify bird monitoring in the affected area. La Avícola Guadalupe, one of the most prominent productive units in the department, has been one of the focuses of attention. There, 30 samples were collected for each productive unit, covering a total of 16 thousand birds.
In addition, 360 bird swabs were carried out in 17 communities in five different municipalities in Suchitepéquez. So far, the results of these investigations show the absence of avian diseases in all the backyard poultry centers examined, both in Suchitepéquez and in the neighboring departments of Quetzaltenango, Retalhuleu and Huehuetenango.
