Madagascar Cup: A record of 900 fighters

The Ankorondrano Indoor Gymnasium is hosting the national women’s and children’s karate cup this weekend. An internship with Malagasy technicians got the ball rolling yesterday.

The Madagascar Women’s and Juvenile Karate Cup will be in the spotlight this weekend at the Ankoay Ankorondrano gymnasium. A first attempt is a masterstroke, because this first meeting records a record number of participants with 900 karatekas in the categories combined. All regional leagues have representatives during this competition. Before serious things begin, the Malagasy Karate Federation organized a course reserved for referees and coaches yesterday, followed by the weighing of the athletes and the drawing of lots. The fighters begin with the kumite elimination phase today. The special women’s competition is a big novelty in the event’s calendar. However, the champions of Madagascar are deprived of this competition. “They are already among those preselected for the national team. We have to give other fighters a chance. For children, this tournament will serve as a detection of the best karateka capable of forming the U8, U10, U12 and U14 national team. said DTN, Sensei Christian Rajaonarison. Concerning the fighters at the African Games in Accra, only two karatekas will represent Madagascar. Fenosoa Rakotobe will be entered in kumite -50 kg, while Gaëlle Linda Rakotonindriana will be competing in kata. President Emile Ratefinanahary leads the Malagasy karate delegation. He will also attend a meeting on site as part of preparation for the East African Championship which will take place in the Capital in May.
