PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron was angry with Israel who did not respect the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by recklessly bombarding Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.

According to the latest information from the Gaza Ministry of Health, the death toll from Israeli bombing from Sunday night to early Monday morning in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood, Rafah, has reached 45 people—including many children. In addition, 294 other people were injured.

Rafah is known to accommodate hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who were displaced by the Israel-Hamas war.

“Angry with the Israeli attack which has killed many refugees in Rafah,” Macron wrote in X.

“This operation must be stopped. There are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians. “I call for full respect for international law and an immediate ceasefire,” continued Macron, as quoted from AnadoluTuesday (28/5/2024).

Meanwhile, the Israeli military ignored much of the criticism, saying an attack on Rafah must be carried out.

“The attack on Rafah was carried out against a legitimate target under international law, using precision munitions and based on accurate intelligence,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

According to the Israeli military, the Hamas group with a significant number of militias is operating in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood.

However, the military said it was reviewing the incident, following reports of civilian deaths and a fire at the refugee camp.
