Report of persecution and pressure

The anti-Chavez leader called for protection for the candidate of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), the main opposition coalition. Machado denounced that they continue to face persecution by the Chavista regime.

“The pressure that our families and our environment are suffering. My office was violated, you know that. We all have to protect the president-elect,” Machado emphasized.

Urrutia will not attend the third meeting

Machado also reported that Edmundo González Urrutia will not attend the third summons of the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office. He argued that there are no guarantees for his safety. This Thursday, the Public Ministry again summoned the standard-bearer of the main opposition coalition in the framework of an investigation related to the allegations of electoral fraud made by anti-Chavez supporters.

“Of course he will not attend because we all know that we are talking about a totalitarian system, where there is absolute control. Edmundo has already been tried,” Machado said.

Call for international pressure

Machado urged the international community to exert more pressure on Nicolás Maduro to accept the terms of a negotiated transition. She stressed the importance of guaranteeing conditions for all parties involved in the process.

“I think that continuing to ask the regime to hand over the records is rhetorical, and you will find yourself facing a closed path. So we have to move forward. What should happen? Qualify Edmundo González as president-elect and apply all the pressure so that we can move forward in a negotiation that establishes the terms of this transition, which will give guarantees to all parties,” he concluded.
