Luca Brecel can’t shake off the volatility.
The best 16 in the world were invited to the Masters and our compatriot was given the number 16 together with Jack Lisowski.
The Englishman is an unpredictable player and with Brecel you never know in advance which version he will play.
The first frames at Alexandra Palace immediately made it clear: Lisowski finished 0-4 against Brecel, who made poor, poor choices and did not make a truly competitive impression.
He fought for a while until 2-4, but then it was Lisowski who closed out against the world number 4: 2-6.
Frame scores were 92(70)-21, 134(100)-0, 100(96)-28, 74(69)-24, 4-95(80), 0-103(72), 86(63 ) – 1 and 77(68)-27.
“He’s struggling,” Jimmy White analyzed. “With Luca you don’t know if he has trained, but he should do it for the Masters.”
“He has to find his form and he does it on the training table. Especially at the beginning he missed obvious shots.”
“He needs to recharge his batteries and prepare for the last tournaments and the World Cup.”
“I didn’t feel well at all. It was a terrible match,” Luca Brecel was frank.
“Unfortunately everyone experiences it, even the best players. I’ll be back, I just don’t know when.”
“No one imitates what I do on the training table. But you have to do it during the games, right,” Brecel laughed a little greenly.
“I’m always relaxed and don’t feel any pressure. Maybe that’s the problem.”
After that the world champion became a little cynical and irritated. “Is there something wrong with my training? I train too much,” he said, referring to his reputation as not a real training animal.
