News from Angola – Carnival parades will take place again on Luanda’s Nova Marginal, from 2023, after the limitations imposed by Covid-19, announced this Tuesday, the secretary general of APROCAL, António Oliveira.
According to ANGOP, António Oliveira, speaking at the first preparation meeting for Carnival 2023, is expected to involve 30 groups, 13 in class A, five in class B and 17 in the children’s class.
Rehearsals for carnival groups will take place from October to November 2022, and in February 2023 competitive parades will be held in the streets, results will be announced and prizes and diplomas will be awarded to the winning groups.
According to the general secretary of APROCAL (Luanda Provincial Carnival Association), the intention is to hold a Carnival show with live music.
He assured that 90% of Luanda’s carnival groups are prepared to participate in the parades and perform live music, stressing that within a month the organization of the biggest popular festival in the country could have the program completed.
He said that Carnival workshops, Carnival fairs and tributes, marathons in the neighborhoods and street Carnival will be held in parallel.
The last edition of Entrudo, held this year (2022), took place in a “live” format.
