Long live spring | Luxembourg word

The winter was long and cold. Unfortunately, someone was always coughing or having a cold. Whatever the viruses are called, we’ve all had them. Although there are elementary rules to prevent infections, not all family members adhere to them, especially the youngest ones. Schools and daycare centers are real breeding grounds for infections. The children also like to bring the latest virus home with them. But this has changed in the last few weeks.

The temperatures have risen and it is now possible to go outside without a thick jacket and scarf. Above all, no one in our family has been sick for a long time. I hope it stays that way. The reason for this is not that everyone spontaneously follows the hygiene rules in schools, but simply because of spring.

It could be a little drier this year, but the rain also has advantages. I don’t want to complain. The rainy spring prevents a dry summer, which could be very hot again. Summer would certainly be nicer for me if there were fewer hot days, because I don’t like the heat. That’s exactly why I prefer spring – it’s neither too cold nor too warm. Plus, summer’s flying and stinging pests haven’t hatched yet.

Spring could be a little drier this year.

The spring has now progressed somewhat and we are spending more and more time in nature. Fresh air strengthens the immune system, they say. And yet I have the tissues ready again. Winter sends its regards. Your nose is running and your eyes are watering. I have hay fever.

The “Gazettchen” is an informal column in which the authors talk in a casual way about their everyday experiences or sometimes provide insight into their thoughts. This has a long tradition: On December 3, 1946, an opinion piece with the title “Today” appeared for the first time at the top left of the first local page in the “Luxemburger Wort”. On January 13, 1971, the extremely popular and very personal column became the “Gazettchen,” which has retained its premium place in Luxembourg’s highest-circulation daily newspaper to this day and throughout all layout revisions.
