LONDON NEWS: Arundhati Roy awarded PEN Pinter Prize for ‘unbreakable’ writing

LONDON: London Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy, Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy, who is currently facing the threat of prosecution over her historical comments on Kashmir 14 years ago, was on Thursday awarded the prestigious PEN Pinter Prize 2024 for her “unflinching and uncompromising” writing.

Established in 2009 by the charity English PEN, the prize defends freedom of expression and celebrates literature in memory of Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter. Roy expressed her delight at being named this year’s winner amid the world’s “unimaginable turn”.
