According to ESPN, Liverpool reached an agreement to recruit potential young midfielder Giovanni Leoni of Parma.
The 18-year-old player made a strong impression in Serie A last season with 17 appearances, attracting the attention of many big teams, including Inter Milan. However, the English port city team is ahead in the race and is preparing to complete the deal with an initial fee of 35 million euros.
In this year’s summer transfer window, “The Kop” spent a total of 328 million euros, a number equal to the previous 3 markets combined.
Leoni will become the most expensive U19 player in Anfield history. This is an important addition to Liverpool’s defense, especially in the context that Jarell Quansah has just moved to Bayer Leverkusen. The Italian midfielder will join coach Arne Slot’s defense team, alongside experienced names such as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.
Not only stopping at Leoni, Liverpool is also actively looking for another midfielder. Earlier this week, the club began negotiating with Crystal Palace about the case of Marc Guehi.
Foggy sources said the South London team wants to earn about 41 million euros, plus an additional 7 million euros in fees. Guehi only has one year left on his contract and Chairman Steve Parish admitted the possibility of the English player leaving Palace this summer.
Another good news for coach Arne Slot is that Joe Gomez returned to training after an Achilles tendon injury. The 28-year-old midfielder had to leave the Asia tour early and take a 3-week break, but appeared with the whole team in the most recent training session, thereby getting ready for the opening Premier League match at home against Bournemouth.
