Amoura (Union) has to settle for his substitute role in Algeria, but he makes an impression
Algeria failed to beat Burkina Faso. The Algerians only made it 2-2 in the last minute. Union player Mohamed Amoura came onto the pitch at half-time and made a great impression. “I think Amoura’s substitution was very good,” said national team coach Djamel Belmadi. The newspaper Instant Foot, which follows the Africa Cup of Nations closely, also praised the Union striker. “It’s strange that Amoura didn’t get going. The way he looked was absolutely overwhelming.” Algeria must win against Mauritania on the final matchday on Tuesday to secure a place in the next round.

Koita (STVV) scores a nice goal for Mauritania
STVV player Aboubakary Koita scored his first goal in the Africa Cup of Nations. And how. Koita darted out of the penalty area, as he has done several times at STVV this season, and the ball disappeared into the top corner. The goal wasn’t enough to score points. Mauritania lost to Angola – where Gent’s Nurio played 90 minutes – 2-3. After two days, Mauritania is last in the group with 0 out of 6. Algeria has two points, Angola and Burkina Faso four.

Defending champion Senegal starts with a convincing victory against Saintfiet’s Gambia
Senegal made a convincing start to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast. The reigning champions defeated Gambia in Yamoussoukro, who played the second half with one man less: 3-0. Our compatriot Tom Saintfiet is coach of the Gambia national team.
Midfielder Pape Gueye gave Senegal the lead with a low shot from close range in the fourth minute. In injury time of the first half, Gambian Ebou Adams received a red card. Senegal quickly took advantage of the surplus situation. Lamine Camara made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute and scored again in the final phase.
Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time two years ago. Egypt was defeated in the final on penalties.

Outsider Ghana loses to Cape Verde
After Egypt and Nigeria, Ghana also started the Africa Cup of Nations on a low note. The country is considered one of the outsiders for the overall victory, but will still have to do something different in the next group matches.
The Ghanaians had some familiar faces in the starting line-up. Dennis Odoi (Club Brugge), Joseph Paintsil (Genk) and Majeed Ashimeru (Anderlecht) had their chances. They soon fell behind after a goal from Jamiro Monteiro. In the 56th minute Ghana equalized thanks to defender Djiku. But the devil of this match was in the tail. Rodrigues scored the decisive goal in injury time. A serious blow to Ghana’s ambitions. Thursday all out against Mo Salah’s Egypt.

Nigeria and Egypt had a disappointing start to the Africa Cup of Nations despite goals from Osimhen and Salah
Captain Mohamed Salah narrowly avoided an embarrassing defeat for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Liverpool striker used a penalty in added time in the first group match against Mozambique in Ivory Coast: 2-2.
Mostafa Mohamed had helped seven-time winners Egypt get off to a dream start in the second minute. But with goals in the 55th and 58th minutes from Witi and Clesio Bauque, Mozambique looked to be making waves. However, in the 7th minute of injury time, Salah remained cool enough from the spot to prevent this.

Nigeria then drew 1-1 against Equatorial Guinea. Ivan Salvador Edú, who plays for Miedź Legnica in the Polish second division, even gave the number 88 in the FIFA world ranking the lead after 36 minutes at the Ebimpé Olympic Stadium. Two minutes later, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen equalized for Nigeria, but that was all.

Ivory Coast, the host country, opens with victory
Ivory Coast opened their 34th season with a 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau. Seko Fofana (4.) quickly ignited the host country at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in the capital Abidjan. Jean-Philippe Krasso (58.) doubled the margin before the hour mark thus eliminating Guinea-Bissau.
Jean-Thierry Lazare Amani of Union Sint-Gillis ultimately missed the Ivorian selection. In Guinea-Bissau, Ouparine Djoco (Francs Borains) spent 90 minutes between the posts. Zinho Gano (Zulte Waregem) remained on the bench.
The next three matches are scheduled for Sunday with Nigeria against Equatorial Guinea (15), Egypt against Mozambique (18) and Ghana against Cape Verde (21). Senegal are the reigning cup holders.
