Literary workshop with Arelis Uribe

Literary workshop with Arelis Uribe

A space dedicated to dialogue, reading and above all, writing. This is the invitation extended by the writer Arelis Uribe, currently resident in the city of Valparaíso, who calls for a free literary creation workshop in the port city, thanks to the National Fund for the Promotion of Books and Reading, Call 2024.

The workshop, which has the support of the Cultural Park and EFE, is aimed at people over 15 years of age who reside in Greater Valparaíso, and proposes to address the literary identity of the territory and the creative concerns of its inhabitants, stimulating their imaginations with readings locals selected by the writer, including classics such as Manuel Rojas and María Luisa Bombal, as well as new generations, such as Cristóbal Gaete and Gladys González.

As the writer Arelis Uribe points out, this project “was born in response to the call of the 2024 Book Fund, which for the first time finances free literary workshops for the community. As a literary worker, I make a living from giving workshops and it gives me great satisfaction to finally open a training space free of charge for its attendees.”

In the instance, which will balance reading and active writing, it is proposed to “accompany the creative process of texts in any literary genre so that they reach a publishable level. “I want to give my editing eyes to those who have projects eager to see the light.” Within the program, the visit of two authors linked to the Valparaíso region is also planned: Daniel Hidalgo (author of “Canciones Punk Para Señoritas Autodestructivas”) and Daniela Catrileo (author of “Chilco”).

The workshop will be made up of 20 people, after selection, who must be residents of Greater Valparaíso. The meetings will take place on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., during 14 sessions, from May 18 to August 31 at the Valparaíso Cultural Park. Applications are available until April 30 through the email [email protected]
