JAKARTA Russia has a number of allies with capable military strength. The nuclear power is currently at odds with NATO over Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin argued that Kyiv’s intention to join NATO was one of the reasons Moscow launched the invasion in February 2022.

Since the war broke out, NATO countries—especially the United States—have supplied Ukraine with many modern weapons.

Moscow considers NATO’s supply of weapons to Kyiv to mean that the alliance is involved in the conflict and could lead to World War III.

If World War III breaks out, it is not impossible that Russia’s allied countries will intervene to help Moscow against NATO.

Moscow officially has 5 allies who are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), namely Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Moscow also has a number of unofficial allies, most of which are hostile to the United States. They are China, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran and Syria.
