List of Countries Severing Diplomatic Relations with Ecuador

QUITO – In the last few days, the international world has been shocked by the news about the severance of diplomatic relations between several countries and Ecuador.

An incident involving a police raid on the Mexican Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, became the flashpoint that sparked this drastic decision.

This raid has generated strong criticism from the leaders of Latin American countries, leading to the severing of diplomatic relations.

The following are two countries that have severed their diplomatic relations with Ecuador:

1. Mexico

Mexico broke off diplomatic relations with Ecuador following the arrest of the former Vice President of Ecuador, Jorge Glas, at the Mexican Embassy in Quito.

Glas, who has been convicted twice for corruption, has been holed up in the Mexican Embassy since requesting political asylum in December.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said it was inappropriate for security forces in Quito to launch an arrest operation inside the Mexican Embassy.
