More than 500 young judokas from 51 countries will compete at Videna from August 28 to September 1.
The 2024 Cadet World Judo Championships will be held at the Multisport 1 of the Videna Legacy headquarters, Lima, bringing together around 500 judokas from 51 nations. The event, which will take place from August 28 to September 1, promises to be one of the most important events on the youth sports calendar worldwide.
The Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD) and the Peruvian Sports Federation of Judo (FDPJ) have organized this prestigious tournament, which marks a milestone in the history of Peruvian judo. The president of the FDPJ, María Martínez, expressed her gratitude for the support received and highlighted the importance of this competition for young athletes: “I want to thank the kids, who are the future of our sport. We have worked hard to provide them with an event with all the guarantees, and I am sure that they will enjoy what we have achieved.”

Competitions will begin on August 28 with the women’s -40 kg and -44 kg categories, and the men’s -50 kg and -55 kg categories. The second day of competition will include the women’s -48 kg and -52 kg categories, and the men’s -60 kg and -66 kg categories. On August 30, it will be the turn of the women’s -57 kg and -63 kg judokas, and the men’s -73 kg and -81 kg categories. The penultimate day, August 31, will see the women’s -70 kg and +70 kg categories, as well as the men’s -90 kg and +90 kg categories. The event will culminate on September 1 with the Mixed Team competitions.
Renzo Manyari, president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP), also addressed the athletes, highlighting the unprecedented support they have received: “This support demonstrates full confidence in their efforts. Wearing the colors of Peru means building a better country, and we congratulate the Judo Federation for organizing its first world championship.”
Among the Peruvian talents who will participate in the event are Ashlee López (-40 kg), Yaelia Mantilla (-44 kg) and Santiago León (-50 kg), among others. IPD President Federico Tong stressed the importance of this championship for the country and encouraged young judokas to represent Peru with pride.
This championship will not only showcase promising young judo athletes, but will also be a crucial event for promoting the sport in Peru and around the world.
