LG Electronics announced the strengthening of its global leadership in the field of sixth generation (6G), through its strong presence in the competent international bodies, its concrete progress in research and development, and the expansion of its strategic partnerships.
The company confirmed, in a press statement reached by Hespress, the appointment of Kim Lay Young, the chief research engineer in the office of the technical director of “LG”, as deputy chairman of the “SA and System” committee (SA) affiliated with the 3G (3GPP) project; The Global Authority in charge of defining the standards and technologies of the advanced fifth generation networks (5G-Edvanced) and the sixth generation (6G).
The “SA” committee is among the most important committees within 3GPP, as it supervises the formulation of systems, services requirements, use of use and safety mechanisms in future communication networks. This appointment reflects the international recognition of “LG” efficiency in the engineering of systems and protocols, especially after its leadership of the Applications Working Group in the next generation coalition (Next G Alliance) for two consecutive periods, a coalition led by the telecommunications industry in North America.
In the context of the expansion of investment in the field of 6G, LG established in 2019 the first academic research center dedicated to the technology of the sixth generation in Korea, the LG-Kest, as part of a strategic partnership with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kaist). The company also developed a strong network for cooperation with international research institutions, most notably the German Fraunhofer Institute and the Korean Institute for Standards and Science (KRISS), which contributed to accelerating the development of the sixth generation solutions and installing the “LG” website as a major innovator in this field.
Among the most prominent achievements of “LG” in this context is its success in 2023 in achieving the longest transfer of external wireless data at the frequency of the Terrazz (Thz), for a distance of 500 meters in an urban environment, which is an unprecedented achievement globally. The company also hosts the “Grand Sixth Grand Summit” annually, with the participation of international experts to discuss future communications trends.
LG is betting on the 6G technology as a major engine for its upcoming innovations, in the areas of smart homes, automated factories, and smart mobility, thanks to the characteristics of these networks in providing high -speed connection, semi -immediate response, and deep integration with artificial intelligence.
“We are committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation in the field of the sixth generation, in a way that enhances our competitive site globally, and establishes a more efficient and intelligent future.
