Leverkusen under young coach Xabi Alonso has done something ‘unique’ in European football.
Round 17 of the Bundesliga continued to see Leverkusen defeat Augsburg 1-0.
The only goal was scored by Exequiel Palacios in the 90+4 minute, helping the team under the 1981-born coach continue to hold the top spot in the Bundesliga table.
They have 45 points, 4 points more than second-place team Bayern Munich but have played 1 more match than their opponent.
Palacios’ late goal helped Leverkusen do something ‘unique’ in European football this season.
Specifically, coach Xabi Alonso and his team became the only team in the top 54 of the European Championship, still maintaining an unbeaten streak up to this point of the season.
Leverkusen had 23 wins, 3 draws in all competitions and scored 82 goals. If only in the Bundesliga, Xabi Alonso and his team won 14 and drew 3 matches after 17 rounds.
