Levels of neglect of patients with HIV-AIDS skyrocket: Supersalud

A growing increase in dissatisfaction among patients diagnosed with this disease was reported by the National Health Superintendency, which it considered as another symptom of the lack of protection of the resource management entities (EPS) with a vulnerable population that requires comprehensive health care.

Within the framework of the commemoration of World AIDS Day, the head of the Health control body, Ulahí Beltrán López, released worrying figures on neglect for the population affected by this disease.

To this end, he highlighted that complaints about this pathology have registered a growth of 90% in recent years, going from 3,735 in 2019 to 7,090 in 2021. And in the first 10 months of 2022 the number of complaints, requests, claims and reports (PQRD) reached 6,706, which exceeded those filed in all of 2020.

The territories where the greatest number of dissatisfactions from patients with HIV-AIDS have occurred are: Bogotá, Antioquia, Valle, Atlántico and Risaralda.

In the contributory regime, the EPS with the highest number of PQRD filed by patients with HIV-AIDS during January and October of this year are: Sanitas, Nueva EPS and SURA. And in the subsidized regime they are Nueva EPS, Emssanar, Coosalud, Capital Salud and Savia Salud.

Superintendent Beltrán López recalled that different rulings of the Constitutional Court indicate that “in the case of people who suffer from this type of illness, comprehensive health care must be provided, regardless of whether or not the set of required benefits are excluded from the mandatory plans.” .

The head of the health control entity said that under no pretext can the entities that operate in insurance deny the laboratory, medical or hospital assistance required to a patient infected with HIV-AIDS or who suffers from any of the diseases considered ruinous or catastrophic.

The monitoring carried out by Supersalud shows that this year 40 complaints against the EPS Savia Salud, 35 against Coosalud, 28 against Emssanar and 23 against SURA have been transferred for investigation, all related to HIV-AIDS due to non-compliance with the duty of health insurance. that is, barriers to access to health services.

When analyzing the number of PQRD filed this year with the Superintendency, those related to HIV-AIDS occupy 14th place among 23 pathologies monitored and surpass those of Covid, which accumulate 5,576 claims. With RSF
