Vienna (OTS) – “With its overall contract, the SVS shows a future-oriented path for the statutory health insurance system,” says Peter Lehner, chairman of the social insurance for the self-employed (SVS) and chairman of the conference of social insurance providers on the occasion of the current debate on the development of statutory health insurance and elective doctors. “We are expanding the service portfolio and adapting it to current requirements and new possibilities. We are strengthening the private practice area and making the shortage subjects more attractive,” emphasizes Lehner and at the same time emphasizes that, in addition to the health insurance system, the elective doctors make a “valuable contribution to care and bring more flexibility and a broadening of the range of offers for the insured.” In addition, it must be part of the discussion attention should be paid to comparability. “A doctor by choice sometimes has appointment times of just a few hours per week, whereas a statutory health insurance doctor is subject to completely different requirements. Therefore, the number of elective doctor’s offices is only partially comparable to that of statutory health insurance doctor’s offices,” emphasizes Lehner.
The SVS invests an additional 30 million euros annually in the branch sector. 71 percent are used for shortage subjects – 42 percent alone for general practitioners, which are currently among the shortage subjects. 65 percent of the 30 million will flow into new services. “The overall contract is a steering instrument and relieves the burden on cost-intensive hospitals,” says the SVS chairman, giving the example of first-line sonography for general practitioners: “With the new contract we have a general ultrasound position for general practitioners. This not only rewards those doctors who have invested in this area, but also directs patient flows. The insured person does not have to go to a specialist or hospital for an ultrasound.”
