Lehner: We need more flexibility and must make the public system more attractive – 2024-06-18 04:32:44

Vienna (OTS) June 17, 2024 – “We need more flexibility and openness in the public system and no bans or unrealistic and backward-looking compulsory regulations,” explains Peter Lehner, chairman of the Conference of Social Insurance Institutions, discussing the demands of Vienna’s Health Councilor Hacker to ban hospital doctors from also working in private practices. “We have to make the public health system more attractive with incentives and offers. This is the only way we will be able to get doctors excited about it. Restrictive contracts are not a solution,” says Lehner clearly.

“More flexibility is the order of the day and a characteristic of a modern and future-oriented workplace. Every company and every organization is developing in this direction, as more and more people want to shape their careers and work environments flexibly. We have to break down rigid systems and be open to new solutions. If we do not take these paths in the public health system, we will endanger the system,” emphasizes Lehner.
