Leather professionals lament the loss of millions of dirhams coinciding with Eid al-Adha

There is intense anger among leather professionals due to the loss of thousands of tons of “Hedorah” on the occasion of the slaughter of sheep and cows on Eid al-Adha.

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, millions of heads of livestock are slaughtered by Moroccans to perform this religious ritual, but most of their skins are destroyed without being exploited in the leather industry.

Actors in the leather industry sector in Morocco expressed their complaint about the continued waste of this important wealth and throwing it in waste without exploiting it.

Hamid Bengridou, head of the Moroccan Center for Leather Technologies, regretted the slaughter of more than 5 million sheep heads on Eid al-Adha without appreciating this leather wealth, which is thrown away as waste.

Bengridou recorded, in his statement to the electronic newspaper Hespress, that “the leather sector, which is considered one of the important sectors in employing the workforce, does not benefit from this wealth that is thrown away in one day without being valued and exploited, which deprives the high-quality Moroccan leather of a great capital opportunity.”

The same spokesman, who is also the president of the African Confederation of Leather Industries, explained that “professionals in the sector had previously called for the establishment of temporary mobile slaughterhouses on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, so that we preserve this wealth like other leading Islamic countries in preserving leather, such as Turkey, Tunisia, and Indonesia.” However, this was not activated.”

Actors in the sector confirm that the latter loses more than 500 million dirhams during Eid al-Adha due to throwing away skins, which reduces its turnover due to the lack of value for this vital material in the leather industry.

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, citizens throw tons of sacrificial skins and garbage containers in the streets, causing them to be lost on the one hand, and polluting the environment on the other hand.
