On the first day of Eid al-Adha, cow skins were sold for Tk 700 to Tk 950 depending on size in the temporary leather market near Aminbazar Bridge in the capital. On the second day of Eid, cow skin is being sold at Tk 500 to Tk 700 at the same place.
However, seasonal leather buyers say they are buying leather at the previous price.
It is known that most buyers do not want to buy goat and sheep skin. Two people are buying these skins for 10 taka. Several goat and sheep skins were lying on the road and pavement.
On the second day of Eid (June 18) in the afternoon, going under the Aminbazar Bridge, it is seen that sellers are bringing leather in rickshaws and vans. Madrasa students are notable among them. However, they expressed disappointment as they did not get a good price for the leather.
5 students came from Aminbazar Jamiatus Suffah Madrasa. They brought 5 pieces of cow skin and 4 pieces of goat skin.
Madrasa student Mohammad Aktaruzzaman said that no one tells the price of goat skin. The price of cow leather is Rs 500 per piece. Another said the price of 750 rupees. Then buyers are not coming. Buyers do not want to buy leather now.
He said, on Monday, the day of Eid, I gave leather to the tannery. Got a good price there. Madrasa has more leather. If you don’t get a good price, you have to think about alternatives.
A student brought three skins in a van from Wahab Mosque adjacent to the bridge and sold them for Tk 1600. Today’s price is lower than yesterday’s.
Sadek Ahmed came from Rupnagar to Amin Bazar in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. He sold two pieces of leather for 1400 rupees.

Seasonal leather seller Shahjahan said that leather is coming less today. Cows and goats are sacrificed on the second day of Eid. We are buying leather at tomorrow’s price. Last time also the price of leather was low, this time the sellers got Tk 700-800.
Regarding the low price of goat skin, a buyer named Shakib said that the tannery does not want to buy goat and sheep skin. Some of us are buying for 10-20 rupees.
On the other hand, talking to the sellers, it is known that the buyers are not even asking for half the price set by the government.
This time, the government has fixed the price of salted cow leather at Tk 55-60 per square foot in Dhaka. On the other hand, the price of salted cow hide outside Dhaka has been set at Tk 50-55 per square foot.
Those concerned say that last year, large size (30-32 square feet) cow hides were sold at Tk 900 and medium size (20-22 square feet) at Tk 600 to Tk 700 during Eid al-Adha last year. Small cow skin was sold at 500 taka, goat skin at 20 to 30 taka. This time buyers are saying the price of leather is even lower.
