Leadership training in the development of health management –

A workshop on publishing the initial results of the study titled ‘Evaluation of strategic leadership training on the Upazila Health Managers of Bangladesh’ was jointly organized by the Department of Public Health and Informatics and UNICEF.

The workshop was on March 25, Bangladesh Medical University (former BSMMU) Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall is held.

Vice-Chancellor Professor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in the workshop. Md. Shahinul Alam emphasized the need to maintain the continuity of leadership training for sustainable development of health management of Bangladesh. The workshop is an important step for the evaluation and development of leadership training for the Upazila Health Manager, which will make Bangladesh’s health system more advanced and efficient.

Professor of Bangladesh Medical University Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor. Nahrin Akhtar, Treasurer, Professor Dr. Md. Atiqul Haque, Chairman, Department of Public Health and Informatics and Dean, Faculty of Preventive and Social Medicine and Dr. Senior Ali Mollah, Deputy Director, Planning and Research, Health Department, Dr. Fida Mehran, Health System Specialist, Health Section UNICEF, Bangladesh gave their valuable views. The negotiators commented on the significance of leadership training and the possible impact on the health sector in the future.

At the beginning of the program, an important discussion on the history and background of the Strategic Leadership and Management Training Program was held. Planning and research, DGHS-deputy program manager Dr. Arafatur Rahman described the implementation and progress of the training program.

Then the lead researcher Dr. Fariha Hasin, Associate Professor, presented the preliminary results of the study at the Department of Public Health and Informatics workshop. It brought important information about the impact and effectiveness of training on the upazila health managers. The results of the study suggest that training for strategic leadership can strengthen the health management at the upazila level, which will ensure proper use of health care and proper use of resources.

Then Dr. AM Zakir Hossain, Chairman, Community Clinic Health Assistance Trust and Member, Health Sector Reform Commission, Leadership discussed the significance of five disciplines. The role of the leadership training was emphasized in the discussion.
