Walid Al-Faraj, one of Saudi Arabia’s most renowned sports journalists, told Action Avec Walid that the striker’s popularity is decreasing every day. “Saudi Arabia seemed like the perfect haven for the Frenchman due to its culture, religion and level of competition, but in the end he could never make a difference here. And he makes no effort to do so. It’s like the team doesn’t like him. He feels uncomfortable, I don’t know why.”

At the beginning of the season there was also an argument between Benzema and then manager Nuno Espirito Santo. It even cost the Portuguese his job. According to Saudi media, Espirito Santo accused his attacker of being lazy.
Al Ittihad are sixth in the table, but they no longer have any chance of winning the title. The gap with leader Al-Hilal is already 22 points. Benzema has scored twelve times in twenty games.
