Lauris Reiniks fulfilled his unfulfilled wish in Australia – he tasted kangaroo meat

“It was an unreal feeling to have flocks of white cockatoos flying all around in the forest. The parrots that we can see in cages in zoos or buy for a lot of money in a pet store, just hover there.

Well, just like our crows. When we filmed this scene with our mouths open in delight, an Australian woman passing by asked in confusion what these cockatoos had earned such attention. We said that we are from Latvia, that we have never seen such birds in the open air in our life!”

When the adventure with the other participants of the TV show was over, he went to visit his fellow students. They asked the musician what Lauris wanted to do in Australia, but he did not succeed.

Lauris replied that he wanted to touch the kangaroo, because in these three weeks he had seen only three dead and one very muscular kangaroo, which he was even afraid of.

“Then the Australian women took me to some really cute kangaroos that allowed themselves to be touched.

And then I said that I have another wish – I want to taste kangaroo meat.

“No, no! It’s terrible, we don’t eat it ourselves, it’s unpalatable, stinky!” – tried to dissuade me. But we managed to convince, we bought meat in the store and cooked it.

Of course, at first I ate alone, the Australians didn’t even bother, they just stared at my mouth, what would my reaction be? And I tasted… Oh, how delicious! I invited them to taste it too! And everyone, surprised by the delicious meal, said: “Lauri, you should have come to us in Australia a long time ago to tell us how delicious kangaroo meat is!” They ate all the meat, they even licked the plates, but I felt like a messiah who came from Latvia and taught Australians to eat kangaroo meat,” recalls Lauris.
