“VISIONES, COSTA DEL DRAGÓN” by photographer Edgardo Reyes Ahumada is the third and final installment of a trilogy of landscape and nature photography books, which began with “VISIONES, ALTURAS DE TARAPACÁ”, a Fondart project from 2021, which portrayed the landscapes and nature of the area’s highlands and was presented on April 8, 2022.

Then, on May 19, 2023, the second part, “VISIONS, PAMPA DEL TAMARUGAL”, was presented, which presents a photographic tour of the pampas and the ravines of the Tarapacá Region, capturing in images the beauty of the natural landscape landmarks and the wildlife that inhabits and survives in this hostile territory that is part of the most arid desert in the world.

This time, “VISIONS, COSTA DEL DRAGÓN” is presented, in which the author focuses his interest on the extensive coastal plain of the Tarapacá Region, a narrow area between the coastal mountain range and the sea, whose width does not exceed 2 kilometers, with a length of 373 km. of beaches, dunes, bays, peninsulas, rocky promontories and cliffs, where numerous species live in the wild.

The project proposes a visual and sensorial narrative through carefully composed and executed photographs, integrating at the same time a series of stories and poems inspired by our Tarapacá coast.

The texts were created especially for the work by local writers Gabriela Hernández Valdés and Mónica Manzano Canales, who after an arduous process of research and creation gave life through their letters to 10 beautiful stories and poems.

The pages of the book include visits to various scenic landmarks ranging from Caleta Pisagua in the north to the mouth of the Loa River in the south, passing by beaches, coves, ruins, seal colonies and penguin colonies, to name a few.

The VISIONES project is the materialization of the author’s dream, which began in 2021 with VISIONES, ALTURAS DE TARAPACÁ, continued in 2022 with VISIONES, PAMPA DEL TAMARUGAL and culminates today with the presentation of this third part: “VISIONES, COSTA DEL DRAGÓN”.
