Launch of the book “Health Brigades, Memories of Resistance and Solidarity”

The Faculty of Arts of the Academia de Humanismo Cristiano University and the Open University of Recoleta invite the launch of the book Health Brigades, Memories of Resistance and Solidarity. Outburst, October 2019from the authors and editors Ana López Dietz,member of the Network of Feminist Historians and Maria Rosa Verdejojournalist specialized in social rights matters.
The book will be presented by Carlos Margottapresident of the Chilean Human Rights Commission and by the UAHC academic, Milena Gallardo, specialist in memoir issues. In addition, it will have the presence of the authors, as well as various Health Brigades and activists who occupied strategic roles during the period of the ‘Social Outbreak’.
This important work is the first book that addresses the experiences of the Health Brigades that operated during that period and does so through the voices of its protagonists, including interviews conducted with brigade members from Arica to Punta Arenas.
On the other hand, this text has the purpose of contributing to the construction of memory and the recognition of those who were present in the streets in a situation of conflict and extreme political violence, appealing to professional and humanitarian ethics, commitment to others and to the performance of voluntary assistance in contexts of violence.
At the same time, this work seeks to contribute to the reflection on the right to health and participation, seeking to influence the strengthening of respect, citizen participation and Human Rights Education.
