Launch of the book “Chilean-style neoliberalism”
- Museum of Memory and Human Rights, Matucana 501, Metro Quinta Normal.
- Tuesday, November 18 – 7:00 p.m.
In this book, doctors in Economics Andrés Solimano and Gabriela Zapata review with data and historical perspective the economic model applied in Chile for half a century, today so deeply rooted in the national culture that it usually escapes critical judgment.
This is the Spanish version, updated and adapted for a broad audience, of an academic essay published by the authors at the University of Cambridge in 2024.
The book reconstructs half a century of radical transformations in the country, from the economic laboratory of the dictatorship to its continuity, with nuances, during democracy.
The authors take a rigorous tour of the processes of privatization, deregulation, inflation and employment, education, health, housing and pensions, among others.
The analysis warns with data where the model showed achievements and where it became fatigued, and suggests that the next development cycle in Chile will have to balance growth, social cohesion and environmental care.
