Last Minute: European Champions League already has a return date

The governing body of football in Europe, UEFA, defined today, June 17th, the return date of the competition, as well as the entire competition calendar and the locations where the last games will be played.

All remaining Champions League games will be played in August, starting on the 7th, with the conclusion of the round of 16, with venues yet to be defined.

The changed calendar, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, includes the holding of a “Final 8”, instead of the usual continuation of the competition, which will begin to be played from the 12th, in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, in the stadiums of Luz and José Alvalade. All games will be played in a single-game knockout format.

The final of the competition was scheduled for August 23rd and will be played in one of the two stadiums already mentioned.

The last games of the Champions League will be played after the end of the national championships, so as to avoid constant travel, due to the possibility of contagion among athletes and managers.

The long-awaited return of the Champions League will take place after 5 months of suspension of the competition, due to the new coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic in the world.
