Lahore High Court Justice Ali Baqir Najafi also received a suspicious letter

According to the court staff, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi of Lahore High Court also received a suspicious letter on Friday, which the police took into custody and started investigation.

On Friday, Justice Baqir Ali was informed by the court staff on receiving the letter, upon receiving the information, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials and police reached the Lahore High Court.

According to the CTD officials, the investigation regarding the suspicious letters received by the judges of Lahore High Court is going on and it would be premature to say anything about any poisonous powder.

After Justice Ali Baqir Najafi received the letter, the number of suspicious letters received by judges of Lahore High Court has increased to six.

From April 1, judges of the Lahore High Court started receiving suspicious letters, but the senders of the letters have not been traced yet.

Earlier, the issue of receiving suspicious letters to judges of Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court also came to light.

During the hearing of the cipher case on Tuesday, Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Amir Farooq, revealed that ‘all of us judges received suspicious letters, in which anthrax (presence) was mentioned and the letters mainly but has been threatened.’

In this regard, the staff of the Islamabad High Court said that eight judges, including Chief Justice Amir Farooq, received suspicious letters, which were written by a woman named Resham Ahlia Waqar Hussain, while the woman’s address was not present on the letters. After which a case of this incident was registered.

After Justice Baqir Najafi received a suspicious letter on Friday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Lahore Ali Nasir Rizvi told reporters at the Lahore High Court premises that ‘the number of letters received is increasing, but this The investigation is ongoing and the senders of the letters are being traced.

“Since the letters are being posted, it will take time to trace the senders, but the envelopes of the letters are also being checked for chemicals,” he added. Apart from this, the mail received by the judges of all the courts is also being checked.

Lahore High Court Bar President Asad Manzoor Butt told Independent Urdu that ‘judges receiving letters is worrying. It may be a malicious attempt to pressure or intimidate the judges. The real facts can come out only after the arrest of the letter senders. The police are doing their work on this issue but no progress is being seen yet.’

He said that the lawyer community stands with the judges as usual and the judges cannot be disturbed or intimidated by such actions.

Asad Manzoor Butt further said that we have called a meeting on this matter today, in which we will prepare the future action plan through consultation. A separate cell should be set up for mail received by judges so that letters are checked first, suspicious letters are looked at first and then mailed to judges.’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in his address to the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Thursday that ‘the government of Pakistan has decided to investigate this matter so that milk becomes water.’

He further said that the judges of the Supreme Court have to show responsibility on the issue of suspicious letters received and politics should not be allowed to come close to it.
