Lahore: Four ‘policemen’ search for Rs 40 lakh ransom

In Lahore, police kidnapped a businessman and registered a case against four alleged policemen who took Rs 40 lakh and arrested three suspects.

Mohammad Nadeem, a resident of Harbanspura area and iron businessman Mohammad Nadeem, told the FIR that he got out of his house on Canal Road at around 11am on Wednesday night. Four people dressed in a police uniform on Rang Road stopped him.

Two men boarded the car and asked them to go to the police station on the pretext of searching, but shortly afterwards, they were taken to Jandiala village and tied them to a mansion room.

According to Nadeem, the accused took off two towels of gold from his throat while taking Rs 25 lakh in cash in the vehicle.

“He threatened to ask for Rs.5 million from the family or else he would shoot.

“I asked a friend of Rs 1.5 lakh, after giving me, he left me on the road.”

According to Mahmood Akbar, an officer of Harbanspura police station, three persons have been arrested from where the businessman was placed, while raids are being conducted to arrest the original accused.

Mahmud says it is not yet clear whether the suspects were really policemen or were merely wearing uniforms.

Punjab has seen an increase in cases of serious crimes against on -duty police personnel.

According to police data, more than 46 cases have been registered against police officers and personnel in Lahore alone this year, with 73 personnel from the constable to the sub -inspector.

They include 12 sub -inspectors and 11 ASIs against whom action is underway.

In a statement issued to the media, DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran said, “There is nothing beyond the law. If a police officer or officer is found involved in the crime, strict legal and departmental action will be taken against him. ”
