Kortrijk Spurs are doing well in Elite Silver. The first match in Den Helder was lost, but the home matches against Den Helder (87-61) and Feyenoord (89-73) were won. Kortrijk is in the lead, although having played one more match than closest pursuers Brussels, Mechelen and Leuven. Four Belgian teams at the top, coincidence or not?
“That is not obvious,” says Spurs manager Davy Callewaert. “We gave away the first match in Den Helder. At home against Den Helder and Feyenoord we were only able to make the difference after half time. By which I mean: when the Belgian teams are at their best, they may have more quality than the Dutch teams. But we really have to play at our best level. We want to compete in the national play-offs soon, but then we have to finish among the best three Belgian teams in Elite Silver. And for this we not only have to win all the matches against our northern neighbors, but we also have to achieve results against the Belgian teams. In the first part of the competition we could not beat Antwerp, Ostend and Limburg, but we could against all other teams. This means that we should also be able to do that in this Elite Silver. We believe we belong in the play-offs. It is now up to the players to prove that. And they will, for sure.”
On Friday evening (9 p.m.) Kortrijk Spurs will visit Yoast United. That is a merger team from Bemmel, in the province of Gelderland, in the heart of the Netherlands, so to speak. “It will be a serious relocation again, but no one will worry about it. We want to win,” continues Davy Callewaert. “Fortunately, we have been able to reverse the negative spiral that was there at a certain point and we see that positive vibe again within the entire club – among the staff, the players and the supporters. I am convinced that we will now continue in this direction. From now on we will go for the win in every match.”
