As the risk grows that the war between Israel and Hamas will spread to surrounding areas, the US Secretary of State has embarked on his fourth trip to the Middle East since the end of the war.
The key is whether Israel can calm down to ease tensions, but the outlook is not rosy.

US Secretary of State Tony Blinken arrives on the tarmac at Turkmenistan airport.
I crossed the Atlantic overnight on my fourth tour of the Middle East since the war began.
Secretary Blinken plans to visit nine countries over the course of a week, starting with Turkey.
We plan to look for ways to ease tensions by visiting Saudi Arabia, a leader in the Middle East, Qatar as a mediator, and Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which are warring parties.
Of particular interest is the meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Attention is being paid to how they will respond to calls to reduce civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip and refrain from attacks on neighboring countries such as Lebanon.
Prime Minister Netanyahu made clear to US senators who visited Israel before Blinken that he had no intention of slowing the offensive.

The leader of the Lebanese armed political faction Hezbollah has also signaled a more active participation in the war.
Referring to the recent assassination of the third Hamas member in Lebanon, he said that a direct confrontation with Israel had become inevitable.

The situation in the Red Sea, where Houthi rebels are increasing tensions, and in the Gaza Strip, where the inflow of essential goods has been blocked since the new year due to the intensification of fighting, is also another task that Minister Blinken must resolve.
The American media said that this trip could be the last chance to avoid an escalation of the war, but predicted that finding a solution would not be easy.
