Knife attack among tourists in central London: Stabbed mother and daughter (11) ended up in hospital

British police today arrested a man who is suspected of stabbing an 11-year-old girl and her 34-year-old mother in central London. Both were taken to the hospital, their injuries were not critical, according to authorities. Investigators do not believe that this was a terrorist act, inform the news agencies Reuters and AP.

The incident happened shortly before noon local time (13:00 CEST) to Leicester Square, popular with tourists, in the heart of the British capital.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man who according to initial information, he did not know the victim, while apparently no other persons are involved in the case. “An urgent investigation is now underway and detectives are working to establish the details of exactly what happened,” London Police spokeswoman Christina Jessah said.

Two victims were taken to the emergency room, whereupon it was announced that the life of the 11-year-old girl was not in danger after being transported to the hospital. Her mother’s injuries are minorAP reported.

She rocked Britain last month the murder of three girls at an event themed around American pop star Taylor Swift in Southport, England. The country was then engulfed in several days of unrest, sparked by internet posts mistaking the suspect for an Islamist migrant. It was not immediately clear whether the stabbings of the girl and the woman were somehow related to these events.

According to the BBC news company an attack in Leicester Square was helped to stop a worker from one of the local shops. He testified that he heard a scream and when he came out of the store he saw a man with a knife. “As soon as I saw him, I jumped on him and grabbed his arm… I knocked him to the ground and kicked the knife away from him.” said 29-year-old Abdullah.
