Jessore Sadar Upazila Parishad election field ‘Kishore gang’ has come up in the discussion. It is alleged that behind-the-scenes elder brothers are preparing to field youth gangs around the elections. They are active in alienating the general electorate by creating panic. However, the administration has also announced a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against youth gangs.
According to related sources, the upazila parishad elections are now blowing across the country. In the first phase of Jessore, elections have already been held peacefully in two upazilas. In the second phase, three upazilas and in the last phase, the election of three more upazilas will be held.
No opposition party including BNP participated in the Upazila Parishad elections. As a result, in the absence of strong competitors, ‘competition within the house’ has come to the fore. Among them, ‘hybrids, terrorists, extortionists, godfathers of juvenile gangs, arms and drug dealers have also become candidates. Common voters are feeling scared.
Sources of the law and order force said that around half a hundred youth gangs are active in different neighborhoods of Jessore city and suburbs. Each group has at least 8-16 members. Multiple groups are also active in some areas. The age of those involved in these groups is 14-21 years. These teenagers involved in various crimes created terror in the area by practicing with desi weapons. Besides, they are also involved in serious crimes like extortion, drug trade and even kidnapping, bombings and murders.
According to the Jessore Kotwali police station sources, the city’s Sixth Tala Ward, Old Kasba, Mujib Road, Tentultala, Railgate, Tulotla, Raipara, Shankarpur, Bakchar, Bejpara, Kholadanga, Chanchra, Bhaturia, Shankarpur Bus Terminal, Rail Road, Manihar, Upshahar, Palbari, Group-based juvenile crime is high in Dharmatala, Khadki, Khadki Kalabagan, Railway Station, Birampur, Nilganj, City Collegepara, Barandipara, Pulerhat and Sheikhhati.
According to related sources, those half a hundred ‘teen gangs’ are involved in various crimes including terrorist activities, murder, extortion, drugs in Jessore. Several people who control them from behind have become candidates for the upazila elections. To take advantage of the electoral field, they are preparing to bring youth gangs to the field. Their target is to create terror through terror in the electoral arena. So that the voters are not centrist.
However, sources related to the administration said that the administration will not tolerate any terrorist activity or inactivity during the election campaign or polling. They are determined to keep the election grounds peaceful. The administration will be on the ground with ‘zero tolerance’ against any inaction.
Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Razzak said that all police teams are conducting round-the-clock operations to maintain law and order situation in Sadar. Those accused are being arrested. Youth gangs or any terrorist gangs will not be allowed to create any kind of disturbance in the election grounds. Any misbehavior will be suppressed by the police.
