King Charles III’s birthday was celebrated at the British Consulate General in Istanbul in Beyoğlu with the ‘King’s Birthday Party’ hosted by the British Ambassador to Ankara Jill Morris and the Consul General in Istanbul Kenan Poleo. Politicians, business people, government officials and many figures from the Turkish and British communities attended the event. In his opening speech, UK Consul General in Istanbul Kenan Poleo said, “As I was talking about this strong relationship and this year’s theme of innovation, the history of the Bosphorus Bridge came to mind. Known as the ‘First Bridge’, the structure is just one example of our countries coming together for innovation. Built with the support of British engineers, the bridge celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Since then, our collaboration in innovation has only grown stronger. Like many of you, I am delighted to hear that there are so many Turkish students studying at our universities in the UK. Innovators, engineers, artists and entrepreneurs from our countries are forming partnerships to grow together and go global. They, and you, continue to be a testament to the strength of the UK-Turkey partnership and friendship.” Referring to the history of bilateral relations between the UK and Turkey, Ambassador Jill Morris said, “As Her Majesty’s Ambassador, I would like to thank you all for your support, cooperation and friendship, which has enabled us to build our partnership for the benefit of both great countries.”
