Kimberly Garcia finishes 16th at the 2024 Paris Games

Evelyn Inga, the best placed member of the Peruvian team, secures an Olympic diploma by placing eighth in the women’s race walk.

Kimberly García did not achieve her goal of obtaining a medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic Gamesplacing 16th in the 20-kilometer race walk. The spotlight was on Evelyn Inga, who stood out as the best Peruvian in the competition, finishing in eighth position and securing an Olympic diploma.

Evelyn Inga surprised everyone by placing among the best in the world, recording a time of 1 hour, 28 minutes and 16 seconds. Her constant pace and endurance allowed her to stay close to the leading group throughout the race and finish within the top ten in the women’s race walk.

On the other hand, Mary Luz Andía also had a remarkable performance. Although she started further back, she managed to move up positions in the last kilometres, finishing in 11th place with a time of 1:29:24.

Kimberly Garcia, who was considered by many to be one of the favourites after her outstanding performance in previous world competitions, was unable to maintain her initial pace. After leading for the first seven kilometres, she began to show signs of pain and was overtaken by several competitors, finishing in 16th place with a time of 1:30:10.

The competition was dominated by China’s Jiayu Yang, who took the gold medal with a time of 1:25:54. Spain’s Maria Perez took silver with a time of 1:26:19, and Australia’s Jemima Montag took bronze with a time of 1:26:25.

Kimberly García will have a new opportunity to stand out in Paris 2024 when she participates in the mixed relay race walk marathon alongside César Rodríguez next Wednesday, August 7 at 00:30.
