Kim Pan-gon officially resigns from coaching position Malaysian National Team . This was confirmed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

The news about Kim Pan-gon’s resignation has been spreading fast. In fact, this news is not just hearsay. FAM Vice President, Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Haji Mahadi, revealed that the coach from South Korea had decided to resign from his position.

“For everyone’s information, Pan Gon has met with FAM management to convey his desire to shorten the duration of his contract,” said Datuk Wira, quoted from the official FAM website, Tuesday (16/7/2024).

“Followed by several more meetings after that we tried to persuade him to reconsider his wishes but in the end the management and FAM Executive Committee respected his decision and agreed to release Pan Gon by mutual consent, even though he still has contractual rights with FAM until December 2025,” he continued.

“Of course this is sad news for all of us because Pan Gon managed to lead the Harimau Malaya squad to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup, besides that our FIFA ranking also increased during the two and a half years he guided the national team. We are sorry for his loss,” he explained.

It was explained that Kim Pan-gon’s position will be replaced by the assistant coach of the Malaysian National Team, Pau Marti Vicente. Then for the assistant coach position, it is occupied by Elangowan Elavarasan.

“What is certain is that Pau Marti’s first task as acting head coach of Harimau Malaya is to lead the team for the 2024 Merdeka Football Party competition which will take place at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil in September, with three other teams participating, namely Tajikistan, Lebanon and the Philippines,” he explained.

“FAM will continue to evaluate and monitor the performance of the Harimau Malaya squad under the guidance of Pau Marti from time to time, especially ahead of the 2024 ASEAN Cup in November and December. The 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers start next March,” concluded Datuk Wira.
